Federalist 51

The 85 essays known as the Federalist Papers were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay with the purpose of convincing Americans to ratify the constitution. They are often cited when people strive to interpret the constitution as it was meant by the founding fathers.

For the purposes of teaching government, most teachers focus on Federalists 10, 51, and 78.

Today we are featuring Federalist 51, which covers the topic of federalism and separation of powers.

We have included the text of the essay, as well as questions and answers for students.
